I am one of the directors and the GM of operations for Flight Coffee. One of my areas of responsibility is also our flagship store The Hangar.

I’ve been making coffee for the better part of my life, I’m really passionate about it. I went to university and supported myself by making coffee; when I finished I first looked to join the police, but then started working with my mates at Flight Coffee and fell in love with the business side of it. Since then, I’ve managed to forge a career for myself.

The thing that I really like about hospitality as a whole is you’re offering people an experience. People can come in, not know anything about specialty coffee and we have the opportunity to change their perspective and even just brighten up their day.

With Flight Coffee we’ve always believed that in order to make outstanding coffee, we need to develop outstanding people. We’ve had people wanting to work with us because of the opportunities that come along in our business. They can start as front of house in The Hangar, for example, move to a barista role, move to the head barista role and then come over to Flight Coffee to understand the roasting processes and work in production.

There are so many different paths inside the industry! Consider what those paths could be and then get started.
