Army recruit to ZORB Duty Manager

Peter's Success Story

It’s not actually a job if you get to have fun every day! Doing something you enjoy is easy.

Interview with Peter

I am a Duty Manager at ZORB and my responsibilities include ensuring the site is operating safely, ensuring everyone on site is being looked after and making sure our customers are having fun.

Meeting all the different cultures, different operators and enjoying my days here.

Meeting new people every day from different cultures and countries. I get to work with amazing staff that I enjoy being with every day.

Because of this job I’ve been able to do a range of different activities in New Zealand like skydiving or rafting for free. I’ve really enjoyed that.

When I joined the Tourism industry I was actually on leave from the army. My friend asked if I could help him out at ZORB and I worked my way up from catcher to general manager there before moving onto the new site.

Absolutely! I come from the army, so I had no tourism background – but here I am. Fifteen years later I’ve learnt a number of skills like dealing with customers and talking in front of crowds and cameras. There are a lot of ways you can start off too. I started with the easiest job you can have here and worked my way up with a lot of hard work.

Come along, it’s a lot of fun – it’s not actually a job if you get to have fun every day! Doing something you enjoy is easy. The traits that you need for Tourism are an outgoing personality because you’re talking to people every day; and be hardworking because you’ll be outdoors most of the time working in the sun, rain, hail and sometimes thunderstorms.
