Looking To Stand Out To Employers? Consider A Video CV
Video CVs, also known as Visumes are becoming increasingly popular and can help you get noticed in any sector. If you get it right, a video CV can display your personality passion and drive much more effectively that the traditional written version.
For Tourism & Hospitlaity roles especially, which typically recruit for very people-centric roles, having the chance to showcase your personality and really connect with employers from the get-go, is a great opportunity to show off your people skills.
What should I include in my Visume?
Video CVs are a great opportunity to showcase exactly the types of attributes and skills, like public speaking ability, personal presentation and genuine connection, that Tourism & Hospitality employers are looking for. Think of it as your chance to show in 3D the thing you would normally write about in a paper CV (education, work experience, interests, qualifications etc.) but with the added bonus of being able to show off your personality, too. This is especially attractive to employers hiring for customer-facing roles.
Good things to think about before filming
- The type of role
- The company culture
- What you want to say (don't attempt to film the video without a script!)
- How it will flow (beginning, middle, end)
- Lighting and clothing
- Amount of time it will take to film and edit and the overall length (keep it short and relevant)
So once I’ve made one, how do I share it with employers?
Your video CV can either be uploaded free to a video hosting site, like YouTube or Vimeo and the link shared in your application, or sent as a video file directly to an employer, via email (just remember, some inboxes have limits on email file sizes). It's also great to link your video CV to LinkedIn and other job search sites.
Happy filming!
